The Unusual Breakfast Suspects

The Unusual Breakfast Suspects

Does your weekend routine involve stumbling out of bed, rolling 500m down the hill until you land in ‘your’ seat at ‘your’ regular to have ‘your’ favourite? Don’t get us wrong, there is nothing wrong with the waiter knowing that your order will be the smashed avo and Latte, or that you know the name of every dog in there, but maybe it is time to switch it up a bit. We have put together a list of some of our favourite ‘under the radar’ breakfast spots.

Left Field - Carnegie

Whenever you drive past Left Field it is always buzzing, with locals either hustling to get onto the waitlist, or enjoying their morning coffee fix. And there is a very simple reason for its popularity – Left Field just do it right. A creative menu, with Middle Eastern influences, beautifully presented and always manages to hit the spot. If you enjoy giving everyone at your table food envy, ‘Pulled Pork Benedict’ is what you should order. #brunchgoals

Store Fifteen – Mornington

Kickstart your weekend with a powerhouse of raw, clean, healthy ingredients, free from sugar, additives, and preservatives. Store Fifteen in Mornington is a delight, honest food made from the freshest ingredients. You just get the feeling that every dish that comes out of the kitchen will make your tastebuds sing and your body skip. Old jam jars, boho vibe and friendly staff make Store Fifteen one of our favourite healthy food options this side of the Yarra.

Field Black – Northcote

Field Black is a must visit – the seasonal menu changes every three months, which creates an undeniable sense of FOMO if you don’t visit at least quarterly. The white picket fence and greenery are so welcoming, and no matter what you are in the mood for, Field Black delivers healthy, decadent, thoughtful and delicious food. Added to the amazing fare is fantastic service, dogs are welcome, and kids have their own play area. It is no wonder Field Black keeps scoring a 10/10.

Fourth Chapter – Prahan

If a leafy courtyard breakfast is what sets you up for the perfect weekend, then you must make your way to Fourth Chapter in Prahan. The décor is bright and airy, and we love the hanging plants to lift our spirits. The menu has a good combination of healthy and more decadent dishes, but you should not go past the Acai Bowl – it is truly a natural wonder of Melbourne.

Populus - Berwick

Let’s just say, if you live in the Berwick area you will probably already frequent Populus – and it is time to share the love. The décor immediately tells you that you are in for a treat, and Populus does not disappoint! Amazing food, amazing coffee, and service to match.  To those Melbournians that are willing to travel a little outside of their postal code, we highly recommend!
